What is High School Diploma from USA equivalent to in India

What is High School Diploma from USA equivalent to in India?
And also can HGD be used to further education in India? If yes, which course; UG, PG?

could not find exact equivalent. I am not sure whether the HSD is equivalent to 10 year of school education (SSLC) or 12 year of school education (HSC/Pre-Degree..etc). to take an UG there should be of 12 Years of school education . for PG an UG is must.

Usually it is French or German but some schools offer Spanish, Italian, Arabic or Mandarin Chinese.
2 :
Well in my school we have the choice of French Italian Spanish Irish German Latin Hope this helps :)
3 :
in primary school, 7 to 12 year olds, they teach english and gaelic irish, which is compulsory. in secondary school, besides the other two, there is a choice of all the european languages, french, spanish, german etc. in fee paying schools they usually offer Latin and Ancient Greek in addition to the european languages.
4 :
Quite normal to have French, Irish, German and Spanish available in schools.
5 :
Depends. My three were taught entirely in Irish at primary so are fluent Irish speakers. In secondary they swapped to being taught in English and could also take lessons in French,German or Spanish if they wanted to.In other schools though at primary level they are taught in English but get Irish classes as well.Other secondaries offer the likes of Russian and Greek also.
6 :
Irish, English and French is complosery until after the junior cert..
7 :
Ladiesman is wrong...french isnt compulsory at all.

How has the Public School system in USA changed since 1950

How has the Public School system in USA changed since 1950 ?
Were the teachings better in those days ? Did they teach more values and or morals at the time ? Was it better or worse ?
History - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
A couple of weeks ago, I confronted my daughter's teacher regarding her reading. My daughter is in 4th grade and although she is only nine years old, she doesn't know anything about "The Pledge of Allegiance" or "The National Anthem" or "the first Pilgrims of this country". I believe, they are not teaching values. We know, education starts at home but there are some subjects, that the school system should provide - period. I taught her more about American History, than she will ever know at school. I'm Italian as you know, but for me, living in America, implies to learn not only well the language, but foremost , it's History. Teachers nowadays, are too confined with what they have to teach. Suddenly, Patriotism became a big "taboo" from the moment the word God, is in the anthem or the pledge. Stupid, and ridiculous !!!! How about the phrase "in God we trust " in the dollar bills? Are they going to change that too ? I am sure, teacher in 1950, had more power to "educate" and instill anything, that has to do with "morals and values" !
2 :
The basics were taught better as they were enforced with better parent/teacher communication and had the belief, spare the rod, spoil the child. Values andmorals were much better then
3 :
Teaching in the 1950s was not unionized as it is today. School administrators had far more control and input over what was taught and what would be tolerated. In 1957, then President Eisenhower pushed forth a policy of desegregation of both the military and the public schools. For the latter, he was forced to call out the National Guard. He also instituted the phrase "...under God..." in the Pledge of Allegiance." Ike was a Republican. When Kennedy came to office, he managed to load up the supreme court with like minded thinking liberals. Prayer in schools was suddenly ruled "unconstitutional." I think we began to stray at this particular point in time. Kennedy was a Democrat. It's not so much about politics and party lines as it is about mindsets and perspectives. There had pretty much always been an underlying subversive element in the education system, but it had until this time, remained largely in the inner city. Like a cancer it began to spread, even to the most rural of schools. Presented initially as offering opportunity to teach alternative subjects, the core subjects began to take a back seat. We don't teach (in our elementary and middle schools) history. Instead we teach "social studies." It just sort of spirals down the drain from there. I think it's of interest that the current Pres. Bush pushed forth a policy of "No Child Left Behind." Teachers were suddenly to be graded on their job performance and the students were the barometer. Teachers who did well would receive a monetary bonus as a reward. Those who failed, could find themselves looking for new employment. The teachers union screamed bloody murder and the media went to work painting a very negative picture of the new policy. Fed up with the whole union thing, I now limit my instruction of history to 4th and 5th grade Cub Scouts. I spend a month teaching about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Articles of Confederation and touch on the prelude to the American Revolution. It's a challenge teaching what is now considered college level material to those who are so young and keeping it interesting. In today's society, no one seems willing to step up and say "This is wrong." The few that do, get quickly shouted down. Of "Christian" "Values," they teach that these are bad, too restrictive. People have this false perception that being "Christian" means you are either a door mat: never willing to stand up and defend what is right, or that you are over bearing and intolerant. That being the case, how then does one explain Jack Kennedy's being Roman Catholic? There is an old saying, "If you stand for everything, then you stand for nothing." That's where we are today. We stand for nothing and we teach nothing. It does after all, "Take a village..."

Wil usa swimming times count for high school state meets

Wil usa swimming times count for high school state meets?
meaning, if i get a time qualifying for high school states in USA swimming, will that count and get me into that event at high scool states? Or, do I have to make my time in my high school swimming?

You have to make it in high school. In a usa meet, the rules are slightly different, for example you cant wear fast skins in a high school meet. the list goes on but if you can do it at a usa meet, you can do it a highschool meet. Hope you get the time!
2 :
High school is separate from club swimming. But, if you do well enough in club swimming, or hight school swimming, either can qualify you for the Olympic trials.
3 :
you would have to make it in high school season, but once you're tapered it shouldn't be hard if you've done it before.
4 :
mine did cuse i couldn't make the trials i had to put in my times and they still allowed it for states but then again i dunno about USA rules and stuff like that cuse i come from the land down under aka Australia

What are the best masters graduate programs that will prepare an individual for medical school in the USA

What are the best masters graduate programs that will prepare an individual for medical school in the USA?
I have a degree in exercise sport/science but i want to become a doctor. Can i still pursue a masters degree in exercise physiology or exercise biochemistry if my overall goal is to get into medical school? Or should i pursue a masters in a biomedical sciences or some type of biochemisty, mollecular biology program? Right now i am looking to apply to three graduate schools for a masters in biomedical sciences. These are UMDNJ, Boston University, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. They all have masters programs that are geared towards individuals whose primary goal is to become doctors but might need another two years to strengthen science knowledge. They are kind of like stepping stone programs. Since i have more an "exercise sport science" background i was wondering if it was ok to still apply to some schools for exercise physiology or exercise biochemistry and still put myself in position to achieve my medical school goals. Any advice would be appreciated.

1 :
You don't need to have a masters degree to get into medical school. You only need to have a bachelors degree and to take pre-med courses. Many schools offer post baccalaureate programs for medical school. If your primary goal is medical school, getting a masters degree is extra schooling that you don't need. If you already have a degree, just look up the prerequisite courses that you need to take. Its usually one year of general chemistry and general biology, a year of organic chemistry and a year of physics (which requires calculus.)
2 :
I would advise you to avoid graduate school if at all possible. I am about to graduate from medical school this year and graduated from undergrad with a BS in math. I don't think there is any program out there that can really "prepare you" for what you will encounter during your first two years. I don't know if you have already applied to medical school in previous years. If you have a descent MCAT and descent grades during your undergraduate career, you should simply apply to medical school and see what happens. If you have a poor MCAT score, you might try taking a review class like the one offered by Princeton Review. If you do apply to medical school and are not succesful, I would take some post graduate classes before actually signing up for a masters program. Most medical schools will require you to complete a program before accepting you if you have already started it. Finally, if you are getting a masters simply for the experience and because you feel it is something that will help you in your career, I might recommend the MD/PHD program. It allows you to get your PHD in 2-3 years following your second year of medical school. I know a few people who started in this program and then dropped out of it because they decided it wasn't worth it. If you try to get a masters first you won't have this option nor will it be as valuable to you as a PHD.
3 :
I wouldn't get a masters in exercise physio bc it looks like that's what you want to do, not become a doctor. They'll question your intent, remember med schools want people 100% committed to medicine. Do the post bacc programs - BU, UMDNJ, PCOM - it will be clear from those you want to become a doc. Drexel and Georgetown also have them BTW. If you are planning on applying allopathic you need to do it at BU, Drexel or Georgetown I think. Osteopathic, do it wherever. I think those programs are great, helped me get in (I did the BU one) and I also got an MPH. Good luck!!

How's high school in USA

How's high school in USA?
I mean, is it really like in the movies with all those reputation stuff and the popular people? Is it true that if you haven't good grades at school you can't go to college? Thanks for answering!
Primary & Secondary Education - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Fairly unitarian compared to Europe. Most kids fall into the average category. Of course it's a higher standard than underdeveloped countries, but far too few go to college. Ironically, we have some of the most-douchiestly selective colleges in the world that seem to only admit billionare-legacies. Edit: Oh, sorry, you meant the social aspect. No, it's nothing like on TV, at least not in most areas of the country. For one, no one looks like they're 25, and high school's really not a big deal, or at least as big of one as it is on TV, socially speaking.
2 :
Yes for both. Although reputation is important in high school, movies tend to exaggerate it.
3 :
Kind of with both of them.. But the first one not so much, you see people from football and baseball and basketball hanging around with eachother. Its more about which sport that you are in where you know the people. I go to school in california and theres 3500 kids at my school which is a lot i think, but your grades kind of matter. You dont have to have good grades to get into a community college. But if you want to go to a university you have to have decent grades, and if you want to get a scholarship to the university you have to have outstanding grades.. hope this helps
4 :
For the first one, no, that is not true. I'm not sure if it ever was true, but surely within the last 30 years it has not existed. Most everyone is broken up eventually, and if you aren't in the bottom of the class you will not see it, as eventually the smarter students are siphoned off into a higher "track" with higher level courses than the other students, where groups do form, despite rules against them. It is absolutely true that without grades you cannot go to a GOOD college. However, here in the U.S.A. we have community colleges and other institutions for anyone wanting a college degree. You also have to be very competitive to go to a good school after high school. You have to have 100s of hours of community service and good activities (FBLA, National Honor Society, Band, Track, etc.) in order to gain acceptance to the top-tier schools. This is not to mention the work you will have to do for scholarships in order to pay for a top tier school, some who have tuition higher than the annual gross pay for many Americans.
5 :
Well, as a high school student I can safely say that the movies that you see are greatly exaggerated. Yes, we have the popular stuff and reputation is always important but they don't play as big of a role in school as portrayed on the big screen. So, maybe it's the school I go but my school's one of the biggest schools in the nation. There are some popular kids, some nerdy kids, and yes we have our cliques but it's not as severe that we need to stick to our own groups. No jock is going to be beat up your nerd (at my school, sometimes the jock IS THE nerd -- I know, take that Hollywood!) and our prom king is currently attending an Ivy League (not because he was given a football scholarship, he actually earned it academically). In most cases, people are friends regardless of cliques. We also don't shower at school even though we do have showers. And, quite honestly, marching band people aren't the people getting beaten up behind the school everyday. Yes, we have our sluts who sleep around but they're not hanging around every jock and practically humping him at school. That occurs at our dances. Yes, the dances are as bad as they make it. No, they're not all held in the gym. Prom is normally when girls wear indecently short dresses and promptly have basically public sex with clothes on with their dates. Nevertheless, the seating arrangements that you see in movies can be real in most schools, even I know that. I still walk around and join different tables if I need to. Now, onto the college aspect. In the US, we have the community college route so anyone if he/she so chooses can go to college. You don't need good grades at school just so you can go to college; it's more about the drive and ambition to go. If you go on the metro, there's ads everywhere telling you that there's scholars for people to go to college. For the good universities and colleges, yes you need good grades. But it's so much more than that: it's about your demonstrated leadership, your extracurricular and your community service. Basically, not everything comes down to grades. That's kind of what I'm hoping for as far as colleges go (my GPA sucks).

Where would you go to school Ecuador or USA

Where would you go to school Ecuador or USA?
Hi! I'm a 17 year old boy from Denmark. And in August month I'm planning to go for a Highschool year in a foreign country. But im not sure if I should pick Ecuador or USA ? What is your opponions about that.. ? I really want to learrn spanish and the south american culture, but I also want to learn about America and American people

Hi. I would advise Ecuador. I have a few Danish friends, and most of them have had the opportunity to come and visit the United States at some point in their adults lives. I'm sure in the future, you will also. But the opportunity to travel and stay in Ecuador long term may only come once in your life. You have probably been exposed to a lot of American culture already through movies and tv. Just make sure that your exchange program has worked with Ecuador in the past, and you will have enough credit for graduation when you return. Good luck, whatever you choose :)
2 :
I would pick the USA You will make friends whereever you go. I believe it probably would be more beneficial to you to have friends in the USA than to have friends in Ecuador. You should be able to take a spanish course while attending school in the USA.
3 :
I guess if you really want to have fun in your last year of high school, you might want to choose US. I don't know how hard it is to study in Denmark but I have friend from Slovakia and she said it's so much easier studying in US. You would have more time to "learn about America and American people". And you can take Spanish class in high school too, though study two foreign language at the same time can be pretty hard. It's also easier to get into the life in US than Ecuador, I can say for sure. Although, you will have to prepare to be shocked, as you might meet some tenth grade kids try to sell you drug, or some pregnant girls walking around the school. I don't know if it's normal in Denmark but from where I come from, it's a big shock! By the way, I'm a exchange student from VN

Universities in America are not regulated by the government, meaning that they are all very different and all have different qualifications. Good schools are going to require A levels, schools that are not as good will take GCSE's, so you will have to look around at UK admissions requirements for various schools that you might be interested in. All of the requirements will be spelled out.

If you want to become a plastic surgeon, go to the best colleg ethat you can get into, then go to the best medical school that you can get into. If you do that, you will be able to choose the best hospitals to go to for your residency.

Is it true that flight school in the USA is cheaper than in Europe

Is it true that flight school in the USA is cheaper than in Europe?
I mean, for example, here in Italy obtaining just a PPL to a flight school near my home, costs about 14500 US dollars is there the same?to achieve the much desired ATP(L) you need a very lot of money, and excluding the separate specific aircraft training you can spend about 150000 dollars...
Aircraft - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Ever since 9/11, the US economy has been going down, which means that things cost less and people make less. However, Europe's banks are flourishing right now, so things cost more and people make more. So yes, European flight school is more expensive than U.S. flight school
2 :
The price of fuel is so much cheaper. Also there are more aircraft and flight schools to keep competition up and prices down.
3 :
When you compare fuel prices, availability of small training aircraft, total number of schools, less restrictive flight environment and finally... The exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Euro... Yes, American flight schools are less expensive
4 :
Yes, it is much less expensive. In the US, it generally costs about $8000 (5500 Euros) USD to earn your private pilot certificate. To complete your ICAO-recognized Commercial certificate, with instrument and multiengine ratings would cost about $25,000 (17,000 Euros) to complete. I have worked with 2 flying students who came to the US specifically to earn their pilot certificate. It was cheaper to do it here (counting travel, housing and ancillary expenses) than it was to do it in their home country of England.

How is school structured in USA

How is school structured in USA?
I am doing a comaparison amongst countries and their schooling systems. What is the general sturcture of school in the USA and what are the terms used for certain grades? Here is an example of what I am looking for (this from SA): Grade 1 - 7 = primary school Grade 8 - 12 = high school Grade 12 aka Matric College / Varisty = secondary education. Your help will be HIGHLY appreciated.

sorry don't know for USA but i cant tell for australia: - pre school (ages 2 - 4) - kindergarten and grades 1 - 6 = primary school - grades 7 - 12 = highschool - then there is college and university (if you choose to attend)
2 :
Well the school system in the United States is a little different. At an age before 5, some parents send their kids to preschool also known as Pre-K At age 5+ kids will attend Elementary School: Grades K-5 K stands for Kindergarten, the grade before 1st grade. At age 10+ kids will attend Middle School: Grades 6-8 And at 13+ kids will attend High School: Grades 9-12 9th grade: Freshman 10th grade: Sophomore 11th grade: Junior 12th grade: Senior (Note these names repeat again in college i.e first year of college is a freshman) Higher education: Some students choose to do a two year technical degree. Others choose to attend a traditional 4 year college. 2 year degree: Technical degree/ associates degree 4 year degree: Bachelor's Degree (also known as undergraduate degree) 6-8 years: Master's Degree/Specialist Degree 8+ is a Doctorate I hope that answers your questions. ^^
3 :
Generally most children attend preschools before they enter into kindergarten at around age four or five Grades 1-6= Elementary school - though some public school districts also call it primary school Grades 7 & 8= junior high although there are middle schools which can vary from 6-9 Grades 9-12= high school then our secondary education system consists of trade schools, community and junior colleges, state colleges and universities. There is also graduate school after that for students who've obtained a four-year degree earning either a masters or doctorate

The answer varies by state. Grades K-6 is primary education. Grades 7-12 is secondary education. Grades K-12 are considered general education. After you have completed 12th grade, you may continue your education in college. There are junior or community colleges where you can earn an Associate's degree in about 2 years. There are four-year colleges where you can earn a bachelor's degree (although it sometimes takes more than 4 years). You may also choose to go to technical school to get a job in fields like plumbing, hair styling, etc.

What graduate business school in the USA, offer Master of science in management and/or marketing.

What graduate business school in the USA, offer Master of science in management and/or marketing.?
I am a fresh graduate looking for Graduate business schools in the USA that can offer on campus MS programs. Most of the business schools offer either MS in Finance, either in Acounting. I don't have full time work experience, so i cannot participate in an MBA.
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers

There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, which do so, however, the meaning of the MS may vary from one school to another. At some, it is a more quantitative version of the graduate degree, intended for people who intend to become market researchers or mathematical modelers. This is actually why you find more MS's in finance or accounting, because those are more naturally quantitative subject matters. At some schools, the MS is given for a concentrated program of what might be the electives in an MBA program in a subject matter - in other words, in the case of marketing, the MBA without the finance, accounting, operations management, human resources, etc. In some schools, the MS is a "consolation prize" given to those who made it through the Ph.D. coursework, but who perhaps failed their comprehensive exams or were otherwise deemed by the faculty unsuitable to continue with the program and write a dissertation. Most employers do not see the two degrees as interchangeable, so I would not see not having work experience as a good reason to get an MS. I think you would be better off waiting a few years for the MBA.

There are plenty of schools that do it. Here are 2 that I know for sure. http://www.pisgaheagles.org/ http://northsandmountain.jc.schoolinsites.com/ I went to both of these schools and had exchange students in both.
2 :
In Michigan, many schools have Exchange Student programs. Visit the websites of public schools, and e-mail a contact and ask if they have exchange student programs. With this program, the foreign student stays with a host family during the school year. Good luck!

Can i collect a tax deduction on my college tuition even tho im canadian and went to school in the USA?
i made a little over $6,000 in the summer and i paid a little over $5,000 for school tuition in the united states. i was just wondering if i am eligible for a tax deduction and if so would H&R block still give me cash on the spot?

Yes you can receive a tax credit for your tuition if you are a still a Canadian resident and it was a qualifying U.S. university, you would need the form T11A. Since your income is under the basic personal amount you are not taxable and the tuition will not be beneficial this year but it can be carried forward to a future year when you can use it to reduce your tax payable. If you had income tax withheld by your employer you should be entitled to a refund. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/tl11a/tl11a-08b.pdf

Is it legal to teach religious songs at a public school in the USA

Is it legal to teach religious songs at a public school in the USA?
I just realized this, because now I go to a Catholic private school. When I was in 5th grade, I was in Chorus at the Suburban public school I went to. When at this private school that I now go to, I was told, in History class, that a public school could get sued for teaching religion. In chorus, we had to sing this song that was partially in Latin. In English, this was one of the lines: The snow lay on the ground The stars shown bright When Christ our Lord was born On Christmas night Wouldn't this be considered illegal for a public school having students in the Chorus singing religious songs? This was not a Christan Chorus. It was just a song Chorus to sing songs.
Law & Ethics - 10 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
no no no
2 :
It probably wasn't illegal as long as students were not forced to sing those verses against their own will or persuaded to believe in those Christian values over other religions.
3 :
Students and teachers have rights! You have the right to teach the children songs of that nature. For example you can teach the children Christmas songs. The only problem I can see is if you are a ta school that the ACLU likes to stomp out peoples rights and free speach.
4 :
its hard to say, even the presence of one religon more than another is somewhat unconstitutional. I think there is some wiggle room here though. In my opinion, religon doesn't belong in public schools, period.
5 :
Gosh no-it's so cute to see the little Muslim & Jewish children singing about Christ! Seriously, public supported charter schools can be religious.
6 :
no...no... this is grounds for a lawsuit!
7 :
It is not illegal to sing Christian songs in a public school. Singing a song does not equal teaching the religion and forcing the beliefs on people. Most schools that do have Christian songs, also include non-Christian or non-religious songs to have a balance between them.
8 :
at christmas time. songs will usually have religious tones cause christmas is from the word CHRIST. so even if you are in public school, you can't completely avoid religious cultural exposure,
9 :
Change the question to a song about Ramadan, and see how the answers change.
10 :
It is not illegal to sing Christmas songs in public schools! It would be illegal if it was compulsory to sing Christmas songs. It would also be illegal if singing Christmas songs was followed up with a lecture on how not accepting Jesus will lend you in hell. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I want to apply to Medical School In usa.Help please

I want to apply to Medical School In usa.Help please?
I want to apply to a school that does not require any tests (MCAT) or anything else. Can you please suggest me some schools? Please help. I am really struggling. The reason why I do not want to take the test is because I have no time to prepare for it since i am at uni doing a PhD and have not time to revise.
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The MCAT is required at all US and Canadian medical schools. In addition, if you are educated in any school outside of the US you will have to do a minimum of one year at a US undergrad unversity. There are other issues. If you attended a school that does not require the MCAT (there are many Caribbean medical schools that do not require it) and you intend to work in the US as a physician, you won't be able to obtain a medical license in any state. All US states require that physicians meet the education requirements of US medical schools--so taking any short cut may get you through an offshore medical school but it'll come back to haunt you when it's time to get a license to practice in the US.

Nursing program, work while going to school in the USA

Nursing program, work while going to school in the USA?
I am interested in taking my nursing. I live in Canada, but want to work in the USA. I heard that some hospitals in the USA are hiring nursing students and training them. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Usually you have to be employed for a certain length of time. The hospitals usually work in conjunction with the colleges. The same pre-req's are required to be granted admission into the nursing program and once in, you will follow the same curriculum as the college. It has two positives, one they usually pay your tuition and two you are usually contracted a job after graduation.

For anyone that speaks another langauage and attends high school in USA. ?
Does it ever seem a little annoying that the other students constantly ask the same questions over and over again about your country. Some of the questions are so ridiculous and they should just google it. Example, everytime i have to use the classroom phone during studyblock, this girl runs over and puts her ear really close to the phone. It's just very annoying. What do you think?

its just there where of learning things if you went to china for example you wouldn't just be sitting there you'd be asking question there just learning don't be so harsh
3 :
People don't really ask me over and over about my country(I am from Russia.) They usually just ask how to say thongs in Russian and want me to say something. Sometimes it's annoying. About the girl who put her tar really close to the phone, it's rude and just tell her "it's not your phone call, back off)
4 :
I know the feeling. And what I really hate is when people ask stupid questions that they could really google. One of my "favorites" is "On which side of the road do Europeans drive?"...that is probably one of the most frequent questions I get. People usually don't care about my first language though, they are not so curious. I just don't like those very generic and basic questions about my country. People in general have no specific questions that would require discussing these topics with a native person since basic facts can be looked up anytime.

False. Federal law requires providing educational services to all children up through high school, regardless of legal status. They can ask for proof of your "residence" not of your "status". Usually a lease or a utility bill showing your address is all that is needed.

Matching into residencies is very competitive in the US. There are a total of somewhere around 24000 rtotal open spots in the US. This includes all specialties. Some specialities are more difficult than others. Some much more diffictult than others, like surgery. US med school students fill 15000 out of the 24000, leaving about 9000 for foreign applicants. I've read that only between 40-50% of all foreign applicants are matched to a residency. To be matched in America to a top program, you must have good USMLEs, to be matched as a foreign student, you must have great USMLEs. Hope this helps

You need to consult with teh Australian Consulate. They would happy to accept more doctors, but I assume that migth have some sort of exam to make sure foreignors have equivalent education as theirs.

FIRST you need to find out if Dermatoogists are in demand - lets see.... http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/skilled-occupations/occupations-in-demand.htm You are in luck - Yes dermatologists are in demand So read the above website and follow the directions after your graduate and AFTER you have worked for at least 2 years to gain the required experience.

Advice for moving school from UK to USA

Advice for moving school from UK to USA?
Right, i am moving soon and would like to know everything there is to know about a typical school in the USA (an average size school). I only know what schools there are like from what i have seen in Movies, so can you tell me if there are any groups of people and cliche groups? Just any info that i need and tips on getting through school and how to act at first. Will i fit in? I am 15 so what 'grade' am i in? And any other different things i should know. Thank you!

The way american movies show schools is hardly what they are like..most of them are your basic hellhole that you will be trapped in for the next four years..same issues like anywhere else in the world..bullies.preps,geeks and outcasts all consist inside amercan schools..really depends what city you will be moving to.
2 :
Well, there's 5 years of Elementary School, 3 years of Middle School, and 3 years of High School. You should be in your first year of High School. And there are a few groups of people... school in the USA is almost exactly like in movies. There are the jocks, sluts, preps, emos, nerds, and the lowest group of people that the popular kids don't even notice. You'll fit in if you just be your self ^^ Have fun in the USA :D Btw what school are you going to? and in what state?
3 :
hi! =) well every school is different and if you are 15 you are probably going to be in 10th or 11th grade, most likely 10th. unlike what the other person said there is 6 years of Elementary school: kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade and 5 grade 3 years of middle school: 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade 4 years of high school: 9th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade and 12 grade. after that you can go to college if you want, but you have to pay for that yourself. my advice is you go to college, because you need to go there to get a good job. well if im going to be honest, i really like high school! there are cliches. different kids that fit into groups like nerds, emos, popular kids. its not quite like the movies though. you should act outgoing! one of the worst things you can do is just blend in with the wall. get noticed! join some clubs that you find interesting. there are TONS of them. and be friendly. people would probably be really interested in you and want to talk to you because you are from UK, so you have more of an advantage than someone from the US moving to a new school over here. last year a guy moved here from england and lots of people talked to him and hes pretty popular. im not sure what accent you have but im sure people will go crazy over it like they did with his! :D don't let anyone scare you into thinking school here is bad. its pretty nice. so what state are you moving to? :D

I think it depends on whether you want to go into design (as you say) or fine arts or something else. I am an architecture student finishing my undergraduate degree, and I know for our portfolios it is always emphasized to include work that represents the entire *process* of a project, not just the final product. For architecture that could mean sketches, rough concept models, inspirational texts and images (although work that is not your own should rarely go in a portfolio, and if it does, it should be small and definitely cited), etc. Maybe there is some way you can expand this idea to your work? Just remember, you are applying to school, not a job, so your portfolio should reveal your enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and potential. It should not be super polished and professional, as that would imply that you are done with your education. Professors are somewhat arrogant and relish the opportunity to work with less experienced students on whom they can have more influence. :) Also, don't worry about your portfolio being too short. No one wants to look through a huge book of mediocre work, so just include your best, and play with the density of your images so that it is an appropriate length (I would say minimum 6 pages). Don't forget to include explanatory text that mentions the date and media of the piece. Good luck!
2 :
I ran into your same problem when I left HS, as mine never bothered to tell me that I'd need a portfolio, and also put me into more computer classes than art classes (I'm a graphic design major). If it helps, many small colleges don't require a portfolio. The ones that do tend to be VERY competitive. If you absolutely CANNOT get into your dream school without a portfolio, what I'm going to reccomend is to first go into a school that doesn't require one, build up your portfolio there, and then transfer.

2 :
If you're speaking of learning to work cattle, then I'd suggest getting a job as one. You don't go to school to become a cowboy. You can take Agricultual majors at universities throughout the Midwest, but that's overkill for most purposes. Getting a job at a salebarn introduces you to all the ranchers ( in the area) and opportunities for jobs become more available. Salebarns tend not to need more then a social security number to get work and you'll become very used to dealing with cattle. If you go to a dude ranch you won't be able to do much because of liability. Good luck.
3 :
Sorry I have never heard of cowboy schools. Perhaps a dude ranch will work. I have heard that you can take riding, and roping lessons at those types of places.

I live in Italy over the summers because my dad works there but I study in the United States at Upenn. There are three kinds of colleges in the United states. A private school costs anywhere from 10000-40000 dollars a year; a public school costs as much for out-of-state students (In-state students pay like 1000-5000 dollars a year). There are also community colleges; these colleges last for two years and are easier than a normal college. They do not cost a lot of money. You can find the right college for you at http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/adv_typeofschool.jsp. This is the official website for the SAT and AP exams; it's very reliable.

Take the ACT exam. Take the SAT exam. Take a couple of AP and CLEP tests. You want to take all the tests Americans take. Then you should email the admissions offices at the colleges that you are interested in. And go from there.

2 :
No.... Most schools don't even allow kids living in other districts to attend their schools- I doubt you can go to school in another country when you live in a different one. BUT!!! You can use a fake address
3 :
Well in most places you need to live in the same district as where you go to school, not the same state but the same district which is a small radius. Why dont you see if you can leave with your family in the USA so you can safely go to school in El Centro.
4 :
If a member of your family with the same last name lives in El Centro you can. The problem is that you have to prove that you live in the district. The easiest proof is a utility bill with your parents name from an address in El Centro. While the US does not ask for citizenship, it does ask for proof that you live in the area of the high school.

Check into an exchange system. There are lots of exchange programs out there these days, if it is just something you want to experiment rather than your parents moving for just a year. You should also be asking these questions to your school counselor and to the college of your choice to see what the differences are and what you need to do to be considered a graduate. Lots of foreigners come to America to go to school, so there has to be equivelancy procedures. Just ask your High school counselors and the college you want to go to.

A-Levels aren't generally recognized in America. So it'll be pretty pointless. You'll be left with no High School diploma and you'd have done AS Level which is worthless in America. To be able to do this you will need to do IB which is recognized in both America and the UK. Which would mean you could do one year in the UK and the rest in America and use it to apply for University in the US. To apply for boarding school in the UK you'll need to find a boarding school and have enough money to pay for the tuition fees and the housing fees and they'll generally accept you. Oh and you may need a visa.

It really depends on your high school. Talk to a counselor. Yes, I. B. will work, but there may be other options.
