Normally you're 10 or 11 when you start and 13 or 14 when you finish. It is the 6th, 7th and 8th years of schooling.

You're get varying answers if you try this way. I suggest CALLING someone or looking it up on Google (there's wikipedia). As for California, we normally start middle school after sixth grade, and generally we are around the age of twelve or thirteen when we enroll.

then back to the US

then back to the US?
What would happen if I did my first two years of High School in the USA, then sixth form, then back to the US for going to a university? would that mean i didn't complete highschool? Is that even do-able? Could somebody suggest how i could go to boarding school in the UK at the age of 17 for ONE year, and after that go back to the states for my final year of high school? How would i go about that?

Check into an exchange system. There are lots of exchange programs out there these days, if it is just something you want to experiment rather than your parents moving for just a year. You should also be asking these questions to your school counselor and to the college of your choice to see what the differences are and what you need to do to be considered a graduate. Lots of foreigners come to America to go to school, so there has to be equivelancy procedures. Just ask your High school counselors and the college you want to go to.

A-Levels aren't generally recognized in America. So it'll be pretty pointless. You'll be left with no High School diploma and you'd have done AS Level which is worthless in America. To be able to do this you will need to do IB which is recognized in both America and the UK. Which would mean you could do one year in the UK and the rest in America and use it to apply for University in the US. To apply for boarding school in the UK you'll need to find a boarding school and have enough money to pay for the tuition fees and the housing fees and they'll generally accept you. Oh and you may need a visa.

It really depends on your high school. Talk to a counselor. Yes, I. B. will work, but there may be other options.

Your best bet is to see if an employer will pay for your schooling. I see all these people, especially international students, wondering how to get a free ride into a top US school. They never stop and think why someone would give money for you to attend the elite schools here.
