i made a little over $6,000 in the summer and i paid a little over $5,000 for school tuition in the united states. i was just wondering if i am eligible for a tax deduction and if so would H&R block still give me cash on the spot?

Yes you can receive a tax credit for your tuition if you are a still a Canadian resident and it was a qualifying U.S. university, you would need the form T11A. Since your income is under the basic personal amount you are not taxable and the tuition will not be beneficial this year but it can be carried forward to a future year when you can use it to reduce your tax payable.
